Wake Forest lands a player from Kansas out of the transfer portal

Wake Forest has picked up another transfer through the portal with Jamari McDowell committing to Coach Steve Forbes on Wednesday night.

McDowell, a Houston native and four-star recruit coming out of high school, spent the last three seasons at Kansas.

He's 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds. Coming out of high school, McDowell was considering Wake Forest, Texas A&M and Xavier but decided to go to Kansas.

For his two seasons at Kansas, he played in 66 games and last season started seven times averaging 17.2 minutes per game. Last season he averaged 3.3 points and 0.8 assists per game to go along with 1.4 rebounds per game.

McDowell redshirted in the 2024-25 season but over the last two seasons got more playing time. He can play all three positions on the perimeter and was an Academic All-Big 12 performer in 2024.

During his career at Manvel High School, he averaged 22.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists in his senior season. He shot 30 for 86 (34.9%) on 3-pointers and had 39 assists against 17 turnovers last season.

Forbes now has commitments from three players for this coming season as McDowell joins point guard Kevair Kennedy (Merrimack) and center Antonio Dorn (Virginia Tech).

The only returning scholarship player still on the roster is Isaac Carr, who is a rising sophomore guard. At last count, eight players from last season's 18-17 team were listed as being in the portal.
