Amazon Prime Sets Kyle Larson 'The Double' Documentary for May 21

Kyle Larson did 'The Double' in 2025, and now Amazon Prime Video will release a documentary about the serious attempt, titled "Kyle Larson vs the Double." The series will premiere on Prime Video on May 21, just before the 2026 Indy 500. The documentary will delve into the 2-year process that went into Larson's attempt to run the Indy 500 by afternoon, and the Coca-Cola 600 by night, for a 1100-lap total between INDYCAR and NASCAR.

Kyle Larson 'Did the Double'

The road to the attempt was longer than hoped. Larson made his first attempt with McLaren and Hendrick Motorsports in 2024. However, it failed to come to fruition due to rain, which delayed the 2024 Indy 500. In that race, Larson finished in 18th place, but did not have enough time to head to Charlotte, North Carolina, to run the Coca-Cola 600. Justin Allgaier steps into the race in LLarson'sNASCAR Cup Series No. 5 Chevrolet.

Luckily for Larson, he was signed to a two-year deal to attempt ''he Double.''That brought Larson back to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2025. Unfortunately, the double did happen, but not finished on either end of the spectrum.

Larson wrecked in the Indy 500, exiting the race at Lap 91. He then flew to Charlotte, where Larson would exit the Coca-Cola 600 on lap 246 with another wreck.

The documentary has been slated for quite some time, with Larson heavily followed in the 2024 lead-up. Of course, Amazon Prime Video has to run it back in 2025 and despite racing failures, Larson did take both green flags to complete this documentary for us fans.

Larson is widely hailed as the best pure driver in NASCAR, thus gaining the opportunity. The attempt marked Larson as the 5th NASCAR driver ever to attempt ''he Double''(John Andretti, Robby Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch).

The documentary will focus on the physical and mental toll that the attempt demands. INDYCAR has extensive practice and qualifying sessions that go into the races eventual running. As for Larson, a stock-car driver, he had to spend much more time than any other driver in preparation to run the open-wheeled McLaren, with which he was largely unfamiliar.

Prime is currently heavily involved in NASCAR, airing each wweek'sNASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying sessions. They will also broadcast five NASCAR Cup Series races in 2026, continuing from their 2025 debut, which received high praise. Amazon Prime will takeover on May 24 with the Coca-Cola 600, running 5 races in total through the San Diego Street Race on June 21.
