Ford Drops 2027 NASCAR Update Ahead of Talladega

Things are always changing in NASCAR. Ford dropped a big update ahead of Sunday's race at Talladega Superspeedway. In the 2027 season, Ford will be adopting the new Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC body in the Cup Series.

Clint Bowyer, Joey Logano, and Zane Smith helped Ford with the announcement. In a prerace segment that was focused on Logano's car collection, Smith crashed the party with an all-new Mustang Dark Horse SC, which won't be available for consumers until this summer.

In the segment, Smith mentioned that the Cup Series will adopt the new body style. Just as Chevy is figuring out its new body configuration, Ford is already taking another step forward.

A new Ford Mustang Dark Horse on the track means Ford can further development on its Cup Series cars. With each new body and development, there is more downforce, more power, and better lap times. At least, eventually.

As Chevrolet has learned this year, it isn't just as easy as slapping on a new body and going racing. Chevy expects more downforce and speed from these cars, but so far, tapping into that speed is a completely different question.

Ford is keeping itself ahead of the curve by introducing another body update. Team Penske, Front Row Motorsports, RFK Racing, and Wood Brothers Racing are the four Ford teams in the Cup Series right now. We will see how the new Ford Mustang affects their performance in the 2027 season.

NASCAR, Fox, and Ford put together a really interesting and fun segment. It is a creative way to make an announcement like this, and is one of the many ways the sport is marketing itself and drivers to fans. Logano and his car collection were a great jumping off point to make the 2027 body update public.
