CSU wins slugfest against UNCA; Citadel falls to UNCG; Cougars swept at home
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Pinch-hitter John Emendorfer walked with the bases loaded to break a tie in the 10th inning, and Charleston Southern tacked on a pair of insurance runs to win a 19-16 slugfest over UNC Asheville on April 26 at Greenwood Field.
The Buccaneers took an early 6-0 lead, then fell behind 14-8 before an eight-run outburst in the eighth inning gave them a 16-14 lead. UNCA tied it in the bottom of the eighth, and after a scoreless ninth, the teams went to extra innings.
After Emendorfer's walk, CSU got back-to-back sacrifice flies by Garrison Barile and Lucas Pringle to cap the scoring.
Kain Collins was 3 for 6 with a walk and two RBIs, while Blake Edgmon was 2 for 4 with a double, two walks and three RBIs for the Bucs, who amassed 19 runs without a single home run. Eleven different players had at least one hit for CSU.
Jack Bunnell went 22/3 scoreless innings to get the win in relief for CSU.
Earlier in the day, CSU dropped a 13-8 decision in a game that had been suspended by rain the previous day.
UNC Greensboro 9, The Citadel 4
The Citadel fell to UNC Greensboro 9-4 at Riley Park but still won the three-game series 2-1.
Christian Stratis recorded two hits, including a double and a triple, and scored one run while driving in another for the Bulldogs (21-22, 6-9 Southern Conference). Jayden Williams drew two walks and stole two bases, while Garrett Fulmer added two hits, including a double, and Aryan Patel went 2-for-4.
Citadel starter Bryce Coulter went three innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, striking out three and issuing no walks. Reliever Liam Foley followed and took his first loss.
Jacob Budzik went 3 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs for UNCG (16-28, 3-12).
Campbell 6, College of Charleston 4
MOUNT PLEASANT - College of Charleston fell 6-4 to Campbell at Patriots Point as the Camels swept the three-game series.
Redshirt senior Alex Lyon tossed a career-high 5.2 innings out of the bullpen, yielding just one run on five hits and one walk while punching out a career-best five batters for the Cougars (20-23, 10-11 CAA).
Ethan Plyler was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Jacob Amman was 2 for 5 with an RBI for Charleston. Nick Diaz had a solo homer.
Campbell improved to 29-14, 20-4.
