Lane Kiffin Lands No. 1 TE Ahmad Hudson as LSU Keeps In-State Star Home

When Lane Kiffin took the LSU job a few months ago, the move sent shockwaves across college football.

He controversially left a College Football Playoff-bound Ole Miss team just before the postseason, and immediately signed a seven-year, $91 million contract to become LSU’s head coach, a deal that made him one of the highest-paid coaches in the sport.

And from the moment he arrived in Baton Rouge, Kiffin went hunting.

Kiffin landed elite transfers like Sam Leavitt, a former Big 12 champion quarterback, and offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, a former five-star prospect and one of the top players available nationally.

On the high school front, five-star in-state defensive lineman Richard Anderson and top-ranked Louisiana prospect Lamar Brown committed early.

And on Sunday, May 3, Kiffin landed his latest headline prospect, the No. 1 tight end in America, Ahmad Hudson.

A 6-foot-6, 240-pound dual-sport athlete out of Louisiana, Hudson is a consensus five-star prospect, the No. 1-ranked tight end, and No. 11 overall recruit in the 2027 class by 247Sports.

In short, he’s the type of player a program can build its entire offense around, which is why he drew more than 30 offers from across the country before committing to LSU.

Hudson emerged nationally during his 2024 sophomore season, hauling in 39 receptions for 754 yards and six touchdowns while leading Ruston to a Louisiana Division I Non-Select state title game appearance.

His junior campaign only strengthened his profile, adding multiple touchdown performances and continuing to dominate as a mismatch weapon capable of lining up inline, in the slot, or outside.

Beyond football, Hudson earned statewide honors in basketball, including multiple Player of the Year-level accolades after averaging 21 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks per game as a sophomore.

Hudson immediately projects as a centerpiece weapon in Kiffin's offense.

At 6-foot-6 with elite athleticism, he's the kind of hybrid mismatch modern schemes are built around, capable of flexing into the slot, stretching seams vertically, and winning contested catches with ease.

Recruiting analysts consistently describe him as a "dream" fit for offensive coordinators due to his rare blend of size, fluidity, and explosiveness.

In Kiffin's system, that translates to a movable chess piece who forces defenses to reveal coverages and creates space for everyone else.

Just as important is where he's from. Hudson staying in Louisiana reinforces LSU's grip on its home-state pipeline.

The Tigers have already secured Anderson (No. 1 DL in 2026), Brysten Martinez (No. 9 OT), Aiden Hall (No. 17 S), Jabari Mack (No. 31 WR), Peyton Houston (No. 9 QB in 2027), and Braylon Calais (No. 10 ATH in 2027), all four- or five-star Louisiana natives.

Adding Hudson, arguably the most coveted of the group, further underscores Kiffin's early control of the state's elite talent.
