Former Wake Forest star wins again on the PGA Tour
Cameron Young added another PGA Tour win to his impressive resume on Sunday in Miami.
Young, a former Wake Forest star, shot 68 to win the Cadillac Championship at Doral's Blue Monster by six shots. He wound up shooting 19 under to win wire to wire.
Young, who is ranked No. 3 in the world, opened the tournament with a 64 and never was threatened the rest of the way. Scottie Scheffler, who is ranked No. 1 in the world, shot 68 on Sunday to finish 13 under and in second place.
It was Young's third PGA Tour win in the last 10 months and second this season. His first win was last August at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro.
"It's just been about self-belief," Young said after his win about the last few months of the 28-year-old's PGA Tour career.
Before finally breaking through with his first win at the Wyndham Championship, he was a runner-up seven times. Now he's won three times in his last 14 starts on the PGA Tour. He had 85 PGA Tour starts before finally winning in Greensboro.
After making the Ryder Cup team as a Captain's pick where he was one of the top players for the United States, he followed that up with a win at The Players Championship earlier this season.
He continued his outstanding play at the Masters finishing tied for third and now he has a third PGA Tour win.
"When the golf course is difficult, when the conditions are difficult, that tends to make it easier for me mentally," Young said about his play in Miami.
On his second hole on Sunday, he called a penalty on himself after he saw the ball move slightly as he addressed it. Despite calling the penalty he still rallied on the hole to make par.
Young will be in the field for this week's Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club. He's one of two former Wake Forest golfers who are in the field.
Joining Young will be PGA Tour rookie Alex Fitzpatrick, who finished at 9 under in Miami that was good enough to tie for ninth place.
Fitzpatrick won last week as he and his brother, Matt, won in New Orleans. That win secured Alex' PGA Tour card, and he backed that up with a top 10 showing.
