Aaron Rodgers' Future With Steelers Receives Major Update: Report

Similar to last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are once again awaiting a decision from 42-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers as he weighs his options in free agency ahead of the 2026 season.

Originally, the expectation was that Rodgers would retire following the one-year deal he signed with Pittsburgh last offseason.

However, after leading the Steelers to the playoffs and seemingly enjoying his time with the organization, signs have continued to point toward Rodgers returning for another season and reuniting with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, who coached him for much of his career with the Green Bay Packers.

That said, there was finally a major update Thursday regarding when Rodgers could make his decision official.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Rodgers is expected to play for the Steelers in 2026 and is reportedly set to be in Pittsburgh this weekend with the intention of negotiating the details of a new contract.

No deal has been finalized yet, so things could still change over the next 24 hours depending on how discussions unfold, but all indications point toward Rodgers once again being Pittsburgh's starting quarterback.

Rodgers completed 65.7% of his passes last season for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. The Steelers went 10-6 in his 16 starts, with Rodgers missing one game because of an injury to his non-throwing hand.
