Anthony Edwards Responds to Chris Finch Saying Timberwolves ‘Got Punked'
The Minnesota Timberwolves suffered an embarrassing 38-point blowout loss in Game 2 against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, showing that the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference is no joke.
San Antonio hit 50% of their shots, including 16-of-39 3-pointers, outrebounded Minnesota 55-39, and held their top scorers all to 12 points or fewer in a statement-making 133-95 victory.
“We just got punked,” was the harsh statement Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said he told his team after that type of loss.
“They just kicked our butt in every aspect of the game tonight. Offensively, defensively, it didn’t matter,” Finch told reporters. “They took it to us, and we didn’t really respond very well.”
Edwards, who has been coming off the bench since Game 1 after his previous injury against the Denver Nuggets, also spoke about his team suffering a brutal rout at the hands of Stephon Castle, Victor Wembanyama, and the Spurs.

“Punked is crazy,” Edwards said, adding, “But, I mean, just look at the film and see what we can gain from it.”
The multi-time All-Star said his team came out “cool” after performing well in their first game of the series to steal a win on the road.
“Look what happened. My momma used to tell me that a hard head make a soft [expletive]. That’s what happened tonight,” he explained.
Minnesota shot just 40% during the game, including 9 of 30 from 3-point range. They also hit only 52 percent of their free throws. San Antonio scored 59 points in the first half, holding the visitors to just 35 as they pressed them defensively.
“They was playing crazy, right?” Edwards said regarding the Spurs’ defensive intensity. “Watch film, find the holes in it. We didn’t make enough shots to get them out of it.”
Edwards played just 24 minutes in his team’s loss and recorded his 12 points on 5 of 13 shooting. Teammates Terrence Shannon Jr. and Julius Randle shot a combined 8 of 22.
The first game of this series was a much different story for the Timberwolves, as Edwards returned from injury to score 18 points, while teammate Julius Randle recorded a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double in a 104-102 win.
Minnesota also shot much better in that effort, and held off a potential Spurs’ comeback win down the stretch.
During his chat with the media from inside the locker room, Edwards said it wouldn’t be up to him to get to start in the upcoming game, but said he wasn’t feeling any lingering injury issues.
Finch’s statement certainly serves as a wake-up call for the Timberwolves, and there will likely be more discussion of the issues this team needs to address heading into their next clash with the Spurs.
The winner of this series moves on to the Western Conference Finals, where Edwards and the Wolves have been several times before.
Game 3 arrives in Minnesota on Friday night with Edwards and the rest of the Timberwolves looking to bounce back with a much better effort in front of their home crowd.
