Cardinals Coach Speaks Out on Jacoby Brissett Holdout With Clear Message
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett is still holding out for a new contract.
Set to make $9.06 million in this season if he hits all incentives, Brissett has only $1.5M in guaranteed money and wants more security for the upcoming season. The Cardinals have already made it clear to the veteran quarterback that he’ll be the team’s starter under center, but he’s hoping for a bit more love financially.
New Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur admitted he’s been in communication with Brissett, who “knows what the expectations are.”

After the first day of Arizona’s rookie minicamp, LaFleur said the dialogue between the two sides continues. The process is “ongoing,” LaFleur said, as veterans prepare to return to Tempe next week to continue their offseason program.
“Everything’s good from a dialogue standpoint,” LaFleur said. “But like we said, this is voluntary, and so that’s where we’ll leave it.”
During the NFL draft, general manager Monti Ossenfort gave a similar refrain.
"We have had good dialogue,” he said. “Both Mike and I have had good dialogue with Jacoby. Obviously, this is the voluntary portion of everything. We’ll continue to have conversations with Jacoby, but things are in a good spot."
Brissett is coming off of a career year in which he threw for 3,336 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 games.
