Why Is Lamine Yamal Not Playing Tonight for Barcelona vs Real Madrid?

Barcelona hosts Real Madrid today in a match that could decide the La Liga title. With 88 points, Barcelona sits 11 points ahead of their rivals and has remained undefeated in the league since mid-January.

A win or even a draw at the Spotify Camp Nou today would officially crown them champions.

In contrast, Real Madrid has struggled recently, managing only three wins in their last nine league matches.

The team has also dealt with internal tension following a reported disagreement between Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Currently sitting on 77 points, Madrid is unlikely to win any trophies this season, meaning they are playing primarily for pride and to delay Barcelona's celebrations.

One small advantage for the visitors is the absence of Lamine Yamal, who is unavailable for today's game.

Why Is Lamine Yamal Not Playing Tonight?

Lamine Yamal is missing tonight's match against Real Madrid due to a hamstring injury (a partial tear of the biceps femoris in his left leg).

The Spanish teenager sustained the injury during Barcelona's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on April 22. Medical reports indicate he will be sidelined for approximately six to eight weeks, effectively ending his 2025/26 club season.

While he has recently returned to individual grass training, Barcelona's medical team has ruled him out of all remaining domestic fixtures to focus on his recovery.

There is also concern that if his recovery stretches to the full two months, he could miss Spain's World Cup opener in mid-June.

The 18-year-old has been a key player for the club this year, contributing 16 goals and 11 assists in league play.

He has also been productive in the Champions League, adding another 6 goals and 4 assists to his season total.
