Victory Wembanyama Accused Of 'Dirty' Play vs. OKC Thunder

Victor Wembanyama wasn't lacking intensity for Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals, that's for sure.

With the San Antonio Spurs facing elimination Thursday night, Wembanyama had 28 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in a 118-91 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was an excellent performance from the 22-year-old All-Star, especially after he came up short in Game 5.

"Just his approach after the game, the things he said in the locker room to us as a team -- when you say all these things, then you back it up with actions, it kind of has an effect," Spurs forward Harrison Barnes said of Wembanyama. "As a leader being able to do that, being able to talk the talk and then walk the walk with play, that's a rare combination."

Even though Wembanyama was undeniably great on the hardwood, fans had an issue with a decision he made in the first quarter. It appears he tugged at Lu Dort's shoulder as they were both running up the court.

Several people, including NFL wide receiver Tyler Lockett, called out Wembanyama for this questionable play.

"The ‘ethical hopper' is dirty. Is building a nice portfolio. Elbowing Reid, diving into SGA's legs, ordering a ‘hit' on McCain," one fan wrote.

"Such a dirty player. Still can't believe he didn't get a suspension from assaulting Reid," a second fan said.

"He should get suspended for that," another fan declared.

Not the first controversy for Wembanyama and the Spurs.

Towards the late stages of Game 5, fans saw Wembanyama whispering something to Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo as he was walking off the court. Just moments later, both players committed hard fouls on Thunder guard Jared McCain.

"I'm not sure that Biyombo was doing anything, but 100% yes Plumlee did," one fan said. "Yes, the league should investigate this. No they won't and even if they found something – nothing happens. No more than with the elbow in a throat."

"I don't know …maybe Wemby outta worry about playing closer to the basket or making more shots before we start whispering to henchmen to deliver messages," another fan said.

Clearly, Wembanyama isn't afraid to get physical or take things too far against the Thunder.

It'll be interesting to see how Game 7 unfolds Saturday night.
