Dwight Howard Drops Victor Wembanyama MVP Take After Spurs' Game 7 Win

The San Antonio Spurs are headed to the NBA Finals after a 111-103 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 on Saturday night.

The Spurs overcame a 3-2 deficit to win the final two games, including securing the Western Conference Finals trophy on the road at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.

Victor Wembanyama led the way with 22 points and 7 rebounds, and all five Spurs starters finished in double figures.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who won his second NBA MVP trophy in a row, led the way with 35 points on 12-of-21 from the field, but the rest of the OKC starting lineup combined for 31 points, with Cason Wallace scoring 17 of those.

After the game, former Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers star Dwight Howard had quite the MVP take regarding Wembanyama, saying the Spurs sensation should've defeated Gilgeous-Alexander for the award.

"Safe to say Wemby should've won MVP," Howard wrote on X.

Wembanyama finished third in the NBA MVP race this season, behind Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic.

Here were the top three results:

  1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 939 total points, 83 first-place votes
  2. Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets: 834 total points, 10 first-place votes
  3. Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs: 589 total points, five first-place votes

And, Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals was when Gilgeous-Alexander received his new NBA MVP trophy with Wembanyama watching from the opposite sidelines.

While Wembanyama had to watch Gilgeous-Alexander take the NBA MVP trophy, the Spurs star won a trophy of his own this time.

After the Game 7 victory, he was named the Western Conference Finals MVP and the winner of the Earvin 'Magic' Johnson award.

Wembanyama finished the series with 27.3 points per game along with 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.7 blocks and 1.4 steals during the series.
