This Is What Victor Wembanyama Did Immediately After Eliminating OKC

There will be no new dynasty in the NBA.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were the latest team to aim for history, looking to win back-to-back championships while laying the foundation for many more to come.

But on Saturday night at home, the San Antonio Spurs and ace player Victor Wembanyama shut the door on them in Game 7 to move into the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks.

Either the Spurs will win their first title since 2014, or the Knicks will fulfill their destiny by lifting the championship trophy for the first time in over 50 years.

For Wembanyama, who was terrible in the team’s Game 5 loss that put them on the brink of elimination, it was a cathartic victory, as he left that game without speaking to the press after a disappointing performance.

But on Saturday, no one mattered for Wembanyama except for his teammates, the 7-foot-4 giant shedding tears and pulling his teammates into a hug after taking down their archrival from Oklahoma.

Although the Spurs beat the Thunder in four of the five regular-season games, it still felt like the young San Antonio team was a year or two away from truly being contenders in a deep Western Conference.

Yet, with the emergence of rookie Dylan Harper, the team’s young core outshined the Thunder’s in the biggest game of their lives, as while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had his best game of the playoffs, Chet Holmgren was nowhere to be found.

Holmgren, who has had his own rivalry with Wembanyama since they were teenage amateurs, didn’t attempt a single shot in the second half of the elimination loss to the Spurs.

Wembanyama will now face his antithesis in the finals: the shorter, more offensive-minded Jalen Brunson, leading to what already appears to be the most anticipated NBA Finals in over a decade.
