Chesterfield softball finishes as 2A state runner-up
CHESTERFIELD, S.C. − Kylee McGlohorn and Miller Martin combined on a six-hit shutout as Saluda blanked Chesterfield 3-0 on Thursday to capture the 2A softball state championship with a series sweep.
In a pitcher's duel, the Tigers scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to claim the victory and the title.
Amy Sorcia had a solo home run for Saluda (29-4) while Aubrey Marnati came through with an RBI double. Ava Martin, Nyla Jordan, Zoey Spring and Reese Shaw also had hits for the Tigers.
Meanwhile McGlohorn allowed no runs on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts across the first three frames before giving way to Martin. She tossed the final four innings and gave up no runs on three hits with no walks and seven punchouts.
Ashton Cassidy took the loss in the circle for the Golden Rams. She went all seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Ansley Helms went 2 for 3 to lead the Chesterfield (17-13) offense. Sydney Sowell, Jamison Miles, Brylie Harpe and Gabi Rhyne also had base knocks.
