The Portuguese national team has yet to travel to the United States for the World Cup because they will play two friendly matches in Portugal to prepare.

Portugal went to the Estadio Azteca to play against Mexico, where the match finished in a 0-0 draw. They then traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to play the USMNT.
Portugal defeated the USMNT 2-0 away from home with goals from Trincao and Joao Felix.
Both matches in North America were without Cristiano Ronaldo, and the Portuguese striker is now in the squad as he was named as part of the Portugal World Cup roster.
Chile did not qualify for the World Cup, and in their previous friendly match, Chile lost 4-1 to Australia, who did qualify for the World Cup.
Portugal and Chile last played each other in 2017 during the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. They faced off in that competition's semifinal, and after a 0-0 draw after extra time, Chile won the penalty shootout 3-0 to advance to the Confederations Cup Final.
