Magic Johnson Reacts to Victor Wembanyama Joining Him in NBA History

Victor Wembanyama put forth his best effort of the 2026 NBA Finals so far on Monday night, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 115-111 victory in Game 3.

Wembanyama recorded 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks in front of a raucous Madison Square Garden crowd, securing the Spurs’ first win of the championship series.

With this impressive stat line, Wembanyama became the second-youngest player (22 years, 155 days) in NBA history to record at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists in an NBA Finals game. The youngest is all-time great point guard Magic Johnson, who accomplished the feat for the Los Angeles Lakers at 20 years and 276 days.

Johnson reacted to Wembanyama’s historic performance with a post on social media.

“I was in awe of Victor Wembanyama's performance tonight – not only did he score 32 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, he also became the 2nd youngest player to have 30, 5 and 5 in the victory over the Knicks on their home court (behind some kid who played for the Lakers),” Johnson wrote on X.

“The entire Spurs team deserves a lot of credit for believing they could win and coming out and executing their game plan,” he continued. “They couldn't have won without help from Castle, who stepped up tonight with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists – and four other Spurs ended in double figures: Harper scored 13 points, Champagnie and Fox had 12 points, and Vassell finished with 11.”
