Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Could Lose Offensive Lineman Before NFL Season
The Kansas City Chiefs have spent much of the offseason focused on protecting franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but one of the team's offensive linemen could soon be on his way out. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs and offensive tackle Wanya Morris have agreed to explore trade options ahead of the 2026 season.
While no deal appears imminent, the development is noteworthy for a Kansas City team that continues to balance roster depth with player development. Morris has been a valuable contributor during his three seasons with the organization, but his path to consistent playing time has become increasingly difficult.
With the Chiefs carrying multiple options at tackle and Morris seeking a larger role, both sides appear open to finding a situation that benefits everyone involved before training camp gets underway.

Wanya Morris Looking For Larger Opportunity
Fowler reported Tuesday that Morris would like a chance to play more regularly and that the Chiefs are willing to explore potential trade destinations.
The former third-round pick entered the league in 2023 after a standout college career at Oklahoma. Since arriving in Kansas City, Morris has appeared in 43 regular-season games and made 16 starts. Eleven of those starts came during the 2024 campaign when he played a significant role along the offensive line.
However, his place in the lineup became less secure as the season progressed. Morris eventually lost his first-team role heading into the postseason, creating uncertainty about his long-term future with the franchise.
Now, with Kansas City boasting increased depth at tackle, both the player and team appear open to exploring alternatives.
What It Means For Patrick Mahomes
Any discussion involving the Chiefs' offensive line naturally circles back to Mahomes.
Kansas City's front office has consistently prioritized protecting its superstar quarterback, particularly after offensive line struggles contributed to the team's Super Bowl LV loss several years ago. Since then, the Chiefs have repeatedly invested premium resources into rebuilding and maintaining depth across the line.
While Morris was not projected to be a starter entering the season, his departure would remove an experienced option from the tackle room. That said, the Chiefs likely would not entertain trade discussions unless they felt comfortable with the depth currently on the roster.
The report specifically notes that Kansas City believes it has sufficient tackle depth, making Morris a player who could potentially be moved without significantly impacting the team's plans.
Chiefs Face Interesting Decision
At just 25 years old, Morris could attract interest from teams searching for offensive line help before training camp.
Starting-caliber tackles remain one of the most valuable commodities in the NFL, and Morris' experience starting games for a championship contender could make him an appealing target.
For now, no trade has been finalized. But as the Chiefs continue preparing for another Super Bowl pursuit, Morris has emerged as a player worth monitoring closely in the weeks ahead. If a deal materializes, Mahomes and the Chiefs could enter the 2026 season without one of their most experienced reserve offensive tackles.
