Bowman Gray Stadium racing season will reach halfway point on Saturday

The Bowman Gray Stadium racing season reaches its halfway point on Saturday with Week No. 9 on tap.

It's about this time of the season where the points start to matter even more.

In the Modified Division, Tim Brown and Burt Myers are battling once again for the title. Brown has won 13 points championships and Myers has won 12.

Last week, Brown got the best of Myers, winning one of the 25lap racwes for his 107th win. Mike Speeney, who is third in the points, won the second race.

"Y'all just watched the two best put a show on," Brown said about beating Myers to the checkered flag. "That (Myers) car is super-fast, and I love racing with him, he makes you better."

Also super-fast last week was Justin Taylor, who put together a complete race in holding off Chase Robertson in the Sportsman Division 100-lap race.

"Man, hat's off to (Robertson), because I drove him pretty crappy," Taylor said. "But I'm going to tell you, that thing was nine cars wide. There ain't no way he was going pass me without wrecking me, and I know he's a better driver than that."

Also winning races last week were Brad Lewis in the Street Stock. He padded his lead in that division. Chuck Wall broke the run that points leader Luke Smith had. Smith had won five races in a row, but Smith finished second in the 50-lap race to Wall.

"We ran up on (some lapped traffic), and I knew Luke was on my back bumper," Wall said. "I got to apologize to the (Andre Chavez), but at the same time, we kind of had to go. I didn't end up turning him, so I guess that's a good thing. I hate to get into somebody like that, but we had nowhere to go."

Also scheduled for Saturday is the Tuff Shed Twin 50s Presented by Q104.1 for the Modifieds. There will also be two Sportsman and Stadium Stock races along with the one Street Stock race.

Also running will be the Crown Vic Outlaw Super Series for the second time this season.
