Weather Cancels Blue Jays vs. Cubs Game
Due to inclement weather, Sunday's rubber match between the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs has been canceled. The game has been postponed until August 6, according to a team announcement.
The game was set to take place on Sunday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, at 2:20 p.m. ET. But Mother Nature had other plans, as the game will not go on as scheduled.
Each team took one of the first two games of the series. On Friday, the Cubs smashed the Blue Jays, defeating them 16-2 in an absolute beatdown. Then, on Saturday, the Blue Jays got revenge by coming back from a 5-0 early deficit to storm back and win the game 8-6.
Both teams were looking forward to playing on Sunday and winning the series. Unfortunately, they will have to wait until August 6 to do so.
Blue Jays Inconsistent This Season
Last season, the Blue Jays made it all the way to the World Series before losing heartbreakingly in Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Over the offseason, the Blue Jays made several roster moves designed to help the team get back on track and back to the World Series. But so far this year, it's been a struggle for the Blue Jays, who have a 38-39 record at the moment.
While that record is still good enough to keep the Blue Jays in the American League Wild Card hunt at the moment, as the AL in general has been extremely mediocre this season as a league, it appears unlikely that the team will repeat as AL East Champions this year after they won 94 games last year.
Both the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays are ahead of the Blue Jays in the standings, so even though the team still has a good shot at making the playoffs, they likely won't have the home-field advantage that they did last season in their march to the World Series.
We are basically near the halfway point of this season, and the Blue Jays are essentially a .500 ballclub, meaning they are an average team.

But the Blue Jays are hoping that superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has had a very disappointing first half to the season, can explode in the second half and lead the team back to the postseason.
With just four home runs, Guerrero has not been living up to his $40 million salary. But there is still more than half the season for him to turn things around and help the Blue Jays make a playoff push.

Cubs Also Not Playing Up To Par
While the Blue Jays have been disappointing, so have the Cubs.
Last season, Chicago won 92 games and was the top Wild Card team in the National League.
This season, the Cubs have been very middling, going just 40-37 so far this season, good for third place in the NL Central behind the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals.
While the Cubs are technically tied for the third NL Wild Card spot with two other teams, they have not created any sort of separation to show that they are one of the better teams in the league this year, which they were last season.
Like the Blue Jays, the Cubs still have more than half the season left to turn things around and show that they are a legitimate contender in the NL.
But the team has several holes in their lineup and pitching staff, so look for the Cubs to make some big moves at this year's trade deadline to beef up their roster and make a big playoff push.
