Wyndham Clark's Girlfriend Taunts Critics After His U.S. Open Win
Wyndham Clark's girlfriend had a clear message for his critics following his victory at the U.S. Open.
Clark was on the receiving end of a lot of not-so-great chants and taunts during the U.S. Open. The crowd at Shinnecock had made it very clear that it was against Clark and for, basically, the entirety of the rest of the field.
"New York didn't really like me. I love you guys, but, you know, I get it," Clark said.
"Some of it is self-deserved. I did some unfortunate things last year that I really regret. I've been sorry multiple times and I'm still sorry, so hopefully I can win you guys over eventually. But I get it, they root for Scottie. Grand Slams only happen a few times. He's going to get it. He's the best player in the world, but today it's my day."
Last year, Clark was ridiculed after he destroyed part of the locker room at the U.S. Open, sparking a lot of fan backlash. He's apologized for his behavior, though he continues to face criticism for it.
Many felt on Sunday that they would rather see someone like Scottie Scheffler or Sam Burns taking home the major tournament win.
But Clark's girlfriend, Emily Tanner, has made it clear that she believes the right person won the tournament.
Clark's girlfriend backs him up online
Clark's girlfriend, Emily Tanner, took to Instagram to make clear that the "most deserving" player at the U.S. Open ended up winning it.
"The most deserving. You did it!! Love you so much," she wrote.
It was a huge win for Clark and his family, that's for sure.
Time will tell if the golf crowd comes around on Clark or if he'll continue to be a villain at major tournaments moving forward.
