Conor McGregor Reveals He Needs Surgery, Announces What's Next for UFC Future
It's been a brutal 48 hours for UFC mega star Conor McGregor.
The former two-division champion - and arguably the most popular fighter in the UFC - made his Octagon return after a five-year absence following a broken leg suffered against Dustin Poirier back at UFC 264 in 2021.
Unfortunately, fight fans didn't get to see if McGregor had any ring rust as he blew out his right knee in the opening seconds of the fight after attempting a leaping roundhouse kick and landing awkwardly on the way down.
McGregor tried to fight through it, but the bout was stopped after one minute and nine seconds when McGregor's knee buckled as he tried to circle away from Max Halloway.
While the extent of his injury still isn't known just yet, McGregor did provide a small detail about his prognosis.
"My faith is unconditional and I am thankful I get to prove it! My lifestyle changes are permanent and not just until. I am thankful I get to prove it," McGregor posted on social media.
"… All things work out for my good! All things are possible for me because I am a believer! Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract. Please God! I trust in You Lord! Show me Your way. Thank You God."
McGregor also ended the speculation about whether or not Saturday's fight would be his last (many current and former fighters like Michael Bisping and Chael Sonnen have urged him to retire).
The last time McGregor suffered an injury he was sidelined for five years. Most believe he's looking at a torn ACL or ligament damage, which could force him out anywhere from a few months up to a year.
