It turns out Christian Fuchs isn’t going anywhere.

A day after Fuchs retired from his professional soccer playing career, Charlotte FC announced the Austrian defender and former CLTFC captain will join the 2023 coaching staff as an assistant under Christian Lattanzio. Fuchs joins a coaching staff that includes someone who worked with the U.S. Men’s National Team, another with Premier League coaching experience, and more.

Friday’s announcement is the latest milestone in an ambitious offseason for the Queen City club, which will begin its second season on Feb. 25 at home. Other moves the team has made include reportedly acquiring Argentinian goal-scorer Enzo Copetti and trading up in the MLS SuperDraft in December to take Hamady Diop with the first overall pick.

Here is what you need to know about the coaching staff.

Meet the Charlotte FC 2023 coaching staff

Christian Fuchs: Assistant. Fuchs’ playing career speaks for itself, from his days captaining the Austrian national team to helping lead Leicester City to an unthinkable Premier League title in the 2015-16 season. Fuchs has praised Lattanzio publicly for his ability to develop young talent — as have other players — and will hope to leave his mark in this way, too.

Andy Quy: Assistant. Quy signed a new contract with CLTFC this offseason and will officially return as an assistant coach, per a release. He originally joined Charlotte FC ahead of the inaugural season as head goalkeeper coach and subsequently was named interim assistant in the wake of Miguel Angel Ramirez’s firing and Lattanzio’s promotion. He has coached in the Premier League with Stoke City and has also served stints in the Championship with Brentford FC and Burton Albion.

Pa-Modou Kah: Assistant. The former defender has four years of MLS experience and 10 caps for the Norwegian national team. He’s served as an assistant coach for the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2017-18 and FC Cincinnati in 2019. He’s also been a head coach in the Canadian Premier League and served as head coach of the MLS NEXT Pro side for FC Dallas in 2022.

Aron Hyde: Head of Goalkeeping. Hyde served as Goalkeeper Coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team in the 2021 Concacaf Nations League and the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup before qualifying for and coaching in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was also on the Atlanta United FC staff during the team’s title run in 2018.

Rohan Sachdev: Head Video Coach. Sachdev joins from the Portland Timbers, where he spent the previous two MLS seasons. A Clemson graduate, Sachdev continues to strengthen the connection between the South Carolina Upstate and Charlotte FC.

Brian Edwards: Edwards was Charlotte FC’s interim goalkeeper coach and will “remain with the club in a new role with Charlotte FC’s MLS NEXT Pro team,” per a release.
