Charlotte FC set for U.S. Open Cup match vs. defending champ Orlando City
Charlotte FC goes for its second victory this season against Orlando City when the two MLS teams meet Tuesday night in a U.S. Open Cup round-of-32 match in Matthews.
Kickoff for contest is 7 p.m. at the SportsPlex.
The Crown beat Orlando City 2-1 on the road in March, getting goals from Enzo Copetti and Kerwin Vargas.
Orlando City won the U.S. Open Cup last season and earned a bye into the round of 32.
Charlotte FC, which reached the round of 16 last year, opened Cup play in late April with a 4-1 victory against South Georgia.
MLS teams gain byes into at least the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, an in-season tournament which is open to about 100 professional and amateur teams in the United States. As defending champion, Orlando got a bye until the fourth round.
Charlotte FC is coming off a 3-2 victory Saturday at home against New York City FC, while Orlando fell 2-0 at Montreal.
Charlotte manager Christian Lattanzio said Monday that he expects forward Kamil Jozwiak back in the lineup Tuesday. Jozwiak has missed two games with an injury. He also said defender Adilson Malanda, injured in Saturday’s match, does not have any broken bones but might not be able to play Tuesday.
