Hornets rookie PJ Washington has surgery on his broken finger. When could he return?

Charlotte Hornets rookie P.J. Washington had surgery in New York Monday on a fractured finger he suffered Friday in a game against the Chicago Bulls.

Washington, a starter from the first game of his NBA career in October, broke the pinkie finger on his right hand late in the Hornets’ win in Chicago. Washington had the procedure at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.

The Hornets list Washington as out for Tuesday’s home game against Sacramento Kings. The Hornets did not provide additional detail on Washington’s prognosis. ESPN reported Sunday that Johnson is expected to miss at least five games.

With Washington out, the Hornets started center Cody Zeller in his place in Sunday’s road loss to the Indiana Pacers. It’s unclear what coach James Borrego will do versus the Kings, but he will have more options. Veteran power forward Marvin Williams, who has missed five games with a sore right knee, is listed as probable to play Tuesday.

Washington, the 12th overall pick out of Kentucky, has been one of this season’s top rookies, averaging 12.3 points 5.3 rebounds and 29 minutes per game.
