Where do Charlotte Hornets fans rank among most negative in NBA? They swear a lot

The Charlotte Hornets haven’t made the NBA playoffs in a decade.

The lingering futility has left fans steaming mad and resorting to four-letter words to express their frustration with the franchise, according to The Vegas Insider.

The online gambling website analyzed over 1.3 million Reddit comments collected during the 2024-25 season to determine which fans were the most negative and vulgar in the league.

While Hornets fans were not as gruff as New York Knicks or Boston Celtics supporters, Charlotte pro basketball fans were among the leaders who posted a specific swear word.

For most teams, the classic s --- is the crowd favorite, accounting for over 40% of all vulgar comments in several subreddits. Hornets fans use that word 43.7% of the time, trailing only Memphis Grizzlies fans.

Hornets fans ranked 14th for positivity among all fan bases, with 45.18% of their Reddit comments viewed as positive. Utah Jazz fans were deemed the most positive, with the majority of their comments (54.18%) being positive.

Fans of the Hornets featured with 26.8% of all comments containing negativity, which ranked No. 21 overall, according to the study.

The negativity among the Charlotte Hornets fan base could be due to its bad NBA Draft Lottery luck.

Instead of being in a position to land consensus No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg of Duke, the Hornets will pick at No. 4 in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Charlotte, which finished with the third-worst record (19-63) in the NBA, entered the lottery tied with the Wizards and Jazz for the best odds of gaining the top pick (14%). The Dallas Mavericks won the lottery. The San Antonio Spurs will pick second and the Philadelphia 76ers are slotted third.

“I’m disappointed. How did we not get the first pick? We had the best odds of those in the top four,” Nate Andrews, a Hornets fan, told The Charlotte Observer at a draft watch party.
