Brandon Miller’s third season has come to a pause.

In advance of Tuesday night’s matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center, the Charlotte Hornets announced Monday their rising star swingman is going to be out at least the next two weeks until he’s re-evaluated.

Miller is dealing with a left shoulder subluxation and has been able to do some on-court work over the past week, according to coach Charles Lee. He’s been out since the second game of the season in Philadelphia, when he was injured early in the second quarter after extending his arm trying to fight through a screen as he slipped simultaneously on his left foot on what appeared to be a wet spot on the floor.

It’s another tough blow for Miller, who missed most of last season wit a wrist injury that required surgery in January. Miller’s absence has opened up Lee’s rotation, allowing for more playing time for the rookies, especially Sion James.

James’ role increased exponentially since Miller got banged up and he’s been impressive. In two games as a starter, he’s averaging 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and two assists. He’s also second in the NBA in 3-point percentage at 72.2 among players who’ve hoisted a minimum of two attempts per game.

And with Miller sidelined until at least the middle of the month, the Hornets will need James to keep filling in at a respectable clip in order to maintain things as much as possible given Miller’s importance as a two-way player, allowing Lee to put him on some of the opposition’s top talent.
