Matchup to Watch
Dirk Nowitzki vs. Marvin Williams/Cody Zeller: The guy who more or less pioneered the concept of a “stretch four” – a power forward with the shooting ability to stretch the floor – is winding down his career, but he’s still an extremely tough cover.
Observations
▪ The Mavericks thought they had one of the coups of the free-agency period when Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan said he’d sign there. Then he had a change of heart and returned to the Clippers.
▪ Dallas ended up retooling with free-agents Wesley Matthews and Zaza Pachulia, who both start. The Mavericks are strong offensively but still must improve their defense.
Tap-ins
▪ Point guard Deron Williams negotiated a buyout from his contract with the Brooklyn Nets to sign with his hometown Mavericks.
▪ The Hornets play five of the next seven on the road before a seven-game homestand to end November.
Did you know?
The Hornets’ average of 11.5 3-pointers made ties the Golden State Warriors for most in the NBA. Last season the Hornets averaged 6.1 3-pointers made per game.
