Matchup to Watch

Carmelo Anthony vs. numerous Hornets defenders: It takes a village to guard Melo. With Michael Kidd-Gilchrist sidelined after shoulder surgery, the Hornets will need to keep feeding him different defensive looks.

Observations

▪ Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis was a split-second late putting up the 3-point shot that would have beaten the Hornets in Charlotte last week. He’s long and skilled, which always is a challenging matchup.

▪ The Hornets’ Nicolas Batum was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday. In the four games considered for this award, Batum averaged 25.5 points, six rebounds and three assists. He shot 58 percent from 3-point range.

Tap-ins

▪ Hornets P.J. Hairston (quad) and Jeremy Lamb (shoulder) both sat out practice Monday.

▪ Arron Afflalo, a free-agent signing, provides the scoring complement to Anthony the Knicks have so long needed.

Did you know?

The Knicks have now lost four in a row to the Hornets but have an overall 32-14 advantage over NBA teams in Charlotte at Madison Square Garden.
