Charlotte Hornets’ Cody Zeller named to USA select team
Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller was named to the USA Basketball select team that will scrimmage the national team headed to the Rio Olympics.
San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will coach the 25-member select team that will scrimmage the national team in Las Vegas next month. Zeller started 60 games for the Hornets last season, averaging 8.7 points and 6.2 rebounds. He also shot a career-best .529 from the field in 73 game appearances.
The select team is a mix of young NBA players and elite college players.
Other select team members with area ties include former North Carolina forward Brice Johnson, along with former Duke stars Rodney Hood, Brandon Ingram, Jahlil Okafor, Jabari Parker and Justise Winslow.
