Charlotte Hornets’ Cody Zeller misses Team USA scrimmages with sore knee
Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller had to miss scrimmaging against Team USA this week in Las Vegas due to a sore right knee.
An NBA source confirmed Zeller had some soreness that caused him to cancel his participation with the USA Select Team. The injury is not considered serious.
Zeller was selected earlier this summer, along with various other young NBA players and rookies-to-be, to scrimmage against the veteran team that will represent the USA in the Rio Olympics. After the training camp on the Nevada-Las Vegas campus, Team USA will play a series of exhibitions before heading to the Olympic Games.
Zeller played a prominent role in the second half of the Hornets’ season after center Al Jefferson needed knee surgery. That moved Zeller into the starting lineup for much of the regular season before Jefferson, now with the Indiana Pacers, rejoined the starters during the seven-game playoff loss to the Miami Heat.
