College basketball gameday: 10 to watch Friday

DAVIDSON (1-1) vs. MISSOURI (1-1)

HP Field House, Kissimmee, Fla., 11:30 a.m., ESPN U

The Wildcats play a consolation game in the Tire Pros Invitational against a rebuilding Missouri team that lost 83-82 in overtime Thursday to No. 11 Xavier. The Tigers’ leader is 5-foot-11 guard Terrence Phillips, who had 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists against Xavier.

WAKE FOREST (3-0) vs. NO. 3 VILLANOVA (1-1)

TD Arena, Charleston, 1:30 p.m. ESPN2

Wake Forest will face the defending national champion in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic. Guard Josh Hart (18.5 points) has been Villanova’s leader this season. John Collins had a career-high 21 Thursday for Wake Forest against UTEP.

CLEMSON (2-0) vs. NO. 11 XAVIER (3-0)

The Tigers will face a Xavier team that has gotten balanced scoring from four starters. Clemson standout Jaron Bossongame, who scored 17 in Thursday’s win against Davidson, will likely draw attention from Xavier’s defense in this Tire Pros Invitational winners’ bracket semifinal.

N.C. STATE (2-0) vs. MONTANA (0-2)

Sports and Fitness Center, St. Thomas, Virginia Islands, 6 p.m., CBS Sports Network

The Wolfpack opens play in the Paradise Jam, facing a Montana team with losses to Southern Cal and Wyoming. Walter Wright, a 5-10 point guard, is a preseason All-Big Sky selection.

NO. 5 NORTH CAROLINA (3-0) at HAWAII (3-1)

Stan Sheriff Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, 1 a.m., Saturday.

The Tar Heels will face Hawaii for the first time in 22 years. The Rainbow Warriors have four players averaging in double figures. North Carolina will remain in Hawaii for next week’s Maui Invitational. Guard Joel Berry averages 21.3 points to lead the Tar Heels.

The visitors have several starters back from a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference runner-up team. Sindarius Thornwell is averaging more than 20 points in the Gamecocks’ first three games.

Donald Tucker Civic Center, Tallahassee, Fla., 7 p.m.

This is the first meeting between these teams, with preseason Big South favorite Winthrop hoping to knock off an ACC contender. They’ll have to work hard on the boards, as Florida State is averaging 13 rebounds a game more than its first two opponents.

IUPUI Gymnasium, Indianapolis, 11 a.m.

This is a semifinal of the 2K Classic, and Gardner-Webb is facing the preseason Mid-American Conference West favorite. The Eagles have an NBA prospect in 6-10 James Thompson IV, the MAC Freshman of the Year last season.

Levine Center, Charlotte, 7 p.m.

Lees-McRae faces its fourth straight Division II power. Queens guard Todd Withers was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points in the Royals’ first two games.

This is the nightcap of the JCSU Tip-Off Challenge, with Livingstone facing Felician in the 5 p.m. opener. The visiting Rams have a nine-man roster and are averaging only 39 percent from the floor.
