The Charlotte 49ers and women’s basketball coach Cara Consuegra have agreed on a contract extension that will keep Consuegra at the helm through the 2020-21 season.

The four-year extension was announced Monday by athletics director Judy Rose, herself a former women’s head basketball coach at the school. Consuegra will be entering her seventh season as Charlotte’s head coach, tying Rose for second place. Contract details were not released.

Consuegra’s career coaching record with the 49ers is 112-75, and she has coached Charlotte into postseason tournaments in four of her six seasons. Ed Baldwin is Charlotte’s all-time leader among women’s basketball coaches in seasons (13) and victories (175).

The 49ers return seven players and two starters from a team that finished 21-10 last season and was fifth in Conference USA.
