The defending NCAA national champions might be the toughest game on Davidson’s men’s basketball schedule, but it won’t be the only difficult one.

The Wildcats will play host to North Carolina at Spectrum Center in Charlotte on Dec. 1, according to their schedule released Wednesday. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Other nonconference foes include UNC Wilmington, Virginia and the Charlotte 49ers in the annual Mecklenburg County rivalry game.

Davidson, which will also compete in the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii in December, could face as many as 10 NCAA tournament teams from last season.

“The makeup of this year's schedule will present significant challenges at home, on the road and at neutral sites,” Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. “A mix of Top 20 programs, longtime rivalries and new faces will provide exciting and highly competitive basketball for our program and for our fans.”

After an exhibition against Hampden Sydney on Nov. 3, Davidson will start the season at home against Charleston Southern on Friday, Nov. 10.
