Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry played point guard for the Davidson men’s basketball team, but the school has another point guard with celebrity ties on this season’s roster.
Cal Freundlich, a sophomore, is the son of actress Julianne Moore and director Bart Freundlich. Moore is famous for her roles in “Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997),” “The Big Lebowski (1998),” “The Hunger Games” franchise and “Still Alice (2014)”, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Moore, who stars in the upcoming film “Suburbicon,” discussed her son’s role on the team alongside co-star Matt Damon and director George Clooney. The trio was doing an interview with the Hollywood Reporter when Freundlich’s name came up.
“Basically Steph Curry’s old position,” Damon said. “Old school, old position.”
When he played for Davidson (2006-2009), Curry was listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds. Freundlich, who walked onto the team last season, is 6-2, 155 pounds.
Freundlich only appeared in three games for the Wildcats last season, but Clooney recalls watching one on his phone.
“We watched the game...and we’re sitting there watching the game and waiting for him,” Clooney said, “and he’d come off the bench and we literally stopped shooting and we were watching it like, ‘That’s him.’ ”
For the season, Freundlich only played a cumulative two minutes.
Still, being the son of celebrities and playing the same position as another isn’t a bad place to start your college career.
