College basketball: Sunday’s area games to watch
SUNDAY’S MATCHUPS
CLEMSON (4-0) vs. TEMPLE (2-0)
TD Arena, Charleston, 9:30 p.m., ESPN2
Clemson goes for the Gildan Charleston Classic championship. Temple has made 10 or more 3-pointers in both of its games and has a double-double machine in center Obi Enechionyia. Clemson’s Marquise Reed had 16 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals in Friday’s semifinal.
WAKE FOREST vs. LIBERTY or HOUSTON
Vines Center, Lynchburg, Va., noon or 2:30 p.m.
The Deacons, off to a 0-3 start (not including Saturday’s game against Quinnipiac), desperately need a win. Liberty (2-1 before Saturday) is expected to contend in the Big South Conference. Houston (1-1 before Saturday) is a good shooting team ranked among the American Athletic contenders.
SOUTH CAROLINA (3-1) vs. WESTERN MICHIGAN (2-2)
HTC Center, Conway, S.C., 2 p.m., ESPNU
This is for fifth place in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament. It’s a rematch of a game played last Monday in Columbia. South Carolina won that contest 78-60, with Chris Silva (10 points, 10 rebounds) leading the way. Western Michigan was the Mid-American Conference preseason favorite.
