College basketball: Saturday’s area games to watch

SATURDAY’S MATCHUPS

DAVIDSON (2-1) at APPALACHIAN STATE (3-3)

Holmes Convocation Center, Boone, 7 p.m.

The visiting Wildcats committed 15 turnovers in Tuesday night’s loss at Nevada. The Mountaineers are coming off a 105-99 double-overtime loss Wednesday to James Madison. Sophomore Isaac Johnson of Providence Day had a career-high 16 rebounds in that game.

GARDNER-WEBB vs. FAIRFIELD

Nutter Center, Dayton, Ohio, 2:30 p.m.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs play in Day 2 of the Dayton Doubleheaders. They will face a Fairfield team that took a 2-1 record into its Friday night game against Jacksonville. Gardner-Webb was 2-3. The Stags are led by Tyler Nelson, who averages 19.3 points. They are not a distance-shooting threat, hitting 29 percent of their 3-pointers.

WEST GEORGIA (3-1) at JOHNSON C. SMITH

Brayboy Gym, Charlotte, 4 p.m.

The host Golden Bulls took a 4-2 record into Friday night’s game against Belmont Abbey. Guard Marquill Smith leads West Georgia, averaging more than 25 points per game. Robert Davis averages 23.8 points for Johnson C. Smith.
