College basketball: Thursday’s regional games to watch

UAB (14-8, 5-4 Conference USA) at CHARLOTTE (5-14, 1-7)

Halton Arena, Charlotte, 7 p.m.

The Blazers rank third in the league in scoring offense (78.8 points) and fourth in defense (68.6), with Chris Cokley (18.2 points a game) leading the team. ...Charlotte’s Jon Davis has climbed to 12th in scoring (15.5) and has averaged more than 20 points over the past five games. Interim coach Houston Fancher is looking for more production from his frontcourt players.

WINTHROP (13-8, 7-3 Big South) at LIBERTY (13-10, 4-6)

Vines Center, Lynchburg, Va., 7 p.m.

This game could have an interesting battle on the boards. Winthrop has the league’s No. 1 and No. 4 rebounders, in Xavier Cooks and Josh Ferguson, and Liberty has the Big South’s No. 2 rebounder in Scottie James.

GARDNER-WEBB (11-12, 6-4 Big South) at RADFORD (14-9, 7-3)

Dedmon Center, Radford, Va., 7 p.m.

Another interesting Big South rebounding battle here, with Gardner-Webb ranking second in the league in that department and Radford third. Gardner-Webb’s offensive leader is David Efianayi, who averages 17.4 points a game.

APPALACHIAN STATE (9-14, 4-6 Sun Belt) at TEXAS-ARLINGTON (13-10, 4-6)

College Park Center, Arlington, Texas, 8:15 p.m.

Don’t let the record fool you. Arlington has losses to Oklahoma, Creighton, BYU, Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast. Forward Kevin Hervey averages 21.1 points and 8.7 rebounds for the hosts. The Mountaineers’ scoring leader is Ronshad Shabazz at 19.0 a game.
