Davidson will be looking for a new athletics director when Jim Murphy, who has held that job since 1995, takes a new position at the college this summer.

Murphy will become the Wildcats’ director of athletics emeritus and become a senior adviser to the president for finance and operations. He will continue as Davidson’s athletics director through June.

“Jim’s counsel will be invaluable as Davidson aims to meet the challenges of a constantly reshaping economy so that we can fulfill our purpose now and into the future,” Davidson President Carol Quillen said in a statement. “I appreciate his willingness to take on this new mission and to add to an already impressive record of accomplishments.”

Under Murphy, the Wildcats enjoyed a successful move into the Atlantic 10 in 2014, as well as the construction of new field hockey, soccer and baseball facilities. The recently completed Vance Athletic Center, which houses Davidson’s Belk Arena, was also constructed under Murphy’s watch.

“This is a terrific opportunity to continue helping Davidson after seeing the college reach so many new heights,” Murphy said in a statement. “I am proud of all we have done and eager to continue moving Davidson forward in new ways.”
