Charlotte 49ers assistant coach Greg Adkins leaving for Marshall
Days after apparently filling out his staff, Charlotte 49ers football coach Brad Lambert is in the market for a new offensive line coach.
Greg Adkins, who was with the 49ers for the 2017 season only, was named Conference USA rival Marshall’s offensive line coach on Friday by Thundering Herd coach Doc Holliday.
Adkins, who played at Marshall from 1987-90 and was an assistant there from 1991-95, came to Charlotte as the 49ers’ offensive line coach a year ago.
Lambert promoted Adkins to offensive coordinator midseason after Jeff Mullins was demoted from that position to quarterbacks coach. Adkins arrived at Charlotte after being fired at Oklahoma State, where he was the Cowboys’ offensive line coach for two seasons.
After the 49ers completed a 1-11 season, Adkins was replaced as offensive coordinator by Shane Montgomery and returned to his job offensive line coach. He had also been recently named running game coordinator.
