College football: 2 games to watch Thursday night

WAKE FOREST at TULANE

Yulman Stadium, New Orleans, 8 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Injuries have thrust freshman Sam Hartman of Davidson Day into the role as starting quarterback for Wake Forest, but he’ll have receiver Greg Dortsch (722 receiving yards, nine touchdowns last year) as a target. And Tulane’s secondary is questionable. ...A bigger problem for Wake Forest will be whether the rebuilt defense can stop Tulane’s triple-option attack, led by QB Jonathan Banks.

JOHNSON C. SMITH at WINGATE

Irwin Belk Stadium, Wingate, 7 p.m.

Wingate beat the Golden Bulls last season, launching a nine-game winning streak to begin the season. ...Johnson C. Smith is young and picked to finish at the bottom of the CIAA South race. ...Wingate, coming off an NCAA Division II playoff berth, is led by All-America receiver B.J. Muckelvene. The Bulldogs are picked to finish second in the South Atlantic Conference.
