Charlotte 49ers basketball coach Ron Sanchez dismisses two from team
Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball coach Ron Sanchez announced Wednesday that junior forward Najee Garvin and sophomore forward Bryant Thomas have been dismissed from the team.
A statement released by the 49ers said Garvin and Thomas “have not met team expectations.”
The statement said “there will be no further comments on this matter.”
Garvin had already been suspended from the team after he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault on a female earlier this month. Court records show Garvin’s trial is scheduled for Nov. 15 in Mecklenburg County Criminal District Court.
The loss of Garvin and Thomas leaves a sizable hole in the 49ers’ frontcourt this season.
Garvin, from Lexington, S.C., averaged 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds last season and was expected to start this season.
Thomas, who played at South Mecklenburg High, played in 10 games and averaged 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds. He was expected to challenge for a starting spot this season.
