Charlotte 49ers sign 4 during basketball’s early signing period
Charlotte 49ers basketball coach Ron Sanchez has locked down his first full recruiting class.
The 49ers announced Friday that four players - guard Jahmir Young, forwards Brice Williams and Caleb Stone-Carrawell and center Anzac Rissetto - have signed with the program during November’s early-signing period.
Young and Stone-Carrawell are considered three-star prospects. Williams is the son of Henry Williams, the 49ers’ all-time leading scorer. Rissetto is one of the top young players in New Zealand.
“We are excited to welcome four high character student-athletes to our program, who all believe in what we are building here,” Sanchez said in a statement.
Anzac Rissetto, 6-10, New Zealand: Risetto averaged 6.3 points and 8.9 rebounds for New Zealand in last summer’s U17 World Cup in Argentina. Assistant Aaron Fearne (who came to Charlotte from Australia) played a key role in recruiting Rissetto.
Caleb Stone-Carrawell, 6-6, Concord Cox Mill: The son of former Duke player Chris Carrawell (and who is now a Blue Devils assistant), Stone-Carrawell was the most outstanding player in last season’s N.C. 3A championship game (the second consecutive title for Cox Mill). Stone-Carrawell averaged 16 points in league play as a junior.
Brice Williams, 6-8, Hopewell: The versatile Williams, who committed verbally to Charlotte this month, averaged 18 points and four rebounds a junior.
“I am ready to help bring Charlotte back to the way it was when my dad played there,” Williams said in a statement. “My decision to come to Charlotte was also based off of coach Sanchez. I felt really comfortable with him.”
Jahmir Young, 6-0, Hyattsville, Md.: Young averaging 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists as a junior during a state championship season for DeMatha High.
The 49ers will add two other players to their roster in 2019-20: guard Jordan Shepherd, a transfer from Oklahoma; and guard Tyler Bertram, who is redshirting this season.
49ers women sign 2
The 49ers’ women’s team signed guard Cali Konek from Pittsburgh and Angel Middleton, a 6-foot-6 center from Charleston.
Konek averaged 17.9 points as a junior last season at Southmoreland High, including a game in which she scored 42 points. Middleton, who averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds and and four blocks last season for First Baptist School, will be the 49ers’ tallest-ever player.
