Misdemeanor charges dropped against former Charlotte 49ers basketball player Najee Garvin
Charges of misdemeanor assault on a female have been dropped against former Charlotte 49ers basketball player Najee Garvin.
Garvin, who was arrested on Sept. 21, had a court date in Mecklenburg County Court on Thursday. According to Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Meghan Cooke McDonald, the charges were dismissed “due to insufficient evidence to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Garvin was dismissed from the 49ers team in October by new coach Ron Sanchez. Garvin said on Twitter on Thursday that he would seek his release from Charlotte. A 49ers athletics spokesman confirmed Garvin had been granted his release and is free to transfer.
Garvin, a junior forward from Lexington, S.C., started 29 games for the 49ers last season, averaging 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds.
