COVID-19 has continued to shift the landscape in 2020 and universities have felt the aftershocks for quite some time now. N.C. State athletics became the latest department to take a hit.

Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan posted a message on the school’s athletics website Thursday morning, announcing salary reductions or furloughs throughout the athletic department.

Effective Oct. 24 through June 30, each member of the staff will see their salary affected.

  • Coaches and staff members making $200,000 or more will have their salaries reduced by 20 percent.

  • Coaches and staff members making $100,000 to $199,999 will have their salaries reduced by 15 percent.

  • Coaches and staff members who make less than $100,000 will be furloughed for 19 days.

“These are uncomfortable and very difficult decisions and I fully understand that actions taken will have a significant impact on individuals and families,” Corrigan wrote. “This is not the byproduct of a lack of success, commitment, or passion of our entire staff, rather an excruciating reality we face as a department, and in higher education.”

Corrigan said the N.C. State is expected to lose between $25-$35 million in revenue due to COVID-19.

In August, Corrigan announced that no season tickets would be sold this year for football with a financial impact of up to $21 million. The entire athletic department is primarily funded with football ticket sales, television revenue and donations from alumni and Wolfpack Club members. Corrigan added in the letter that the athletics department projects to spend $2 million with regular COVID-19 testing for athletes, coaches and staff.

Corrigan asked regular season ticket holders to invest their 2020 balance into the Preserve the Pack Athletics Fund. The Preserve the Pack campaign will help cover the funding gap due to COVID-19, according to Corrigan’s letter. Season ticket holders who donate to Preserve the Pack will get some perks, which include:

  • Advance presale access for 2020 football single game tickets.

  • Ability to lock in 2020 parking location for 2021 season.

  • Bonus Wolfpack Club priority points for reinvesting all of portion of your 2020 football season ticket balance to Preserve the Pack.

  • Lock in 2020 football season ticket prices for 2021 football season.

  • Invitation to a special VIP experience in 2021 (circumstances permitting).
