Gamecocks take victory off game-winning field goal

Parker White won the game for South Carolina off a 36-yard field goal. Juju McDowell took the lead on the Gamecocks’ last drive, rushing for 43 yards in their last series to help set up the late field goal. South Carolina defeated ECU 20-17.

Parker White 49-yard FG knots it back up

South Carolina responded to ECU’s scoring drive with a 49-yard field goal from Parker White, tying the game at 17-17 with 6:46 to go. The Gamecocks’ drive was set up at the Pirates’ 33-yard line thanks to Juju McDowell’s 63-yard kickoff return.

East Carolina takes a 3-point lead

A field goal from East Carolina kicker Owen Daffer gave the Pirates the lead at 17-14 after a 14-play, 67-yard drive that ticked seven minutes off the clock in the fourth quarter.

Dakereon Joyner TD catch ties it up late in the third

South Carolina’s offense finally strung together its first scoring drive against East Carolina late in the third quarter. Wide receiver Dakereon Joyner came down with a 13-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Zeb Noland. The Gamecocks put together a five-play, 72-yard drive that took only 1:38 off the clock to tie game at 14.

Damani Staley interception gets Gamecocks on the board

Damani Staley returned an interception for South Carolina’s first touchdown with just over a minute left before halftime. Staley’s 63-yard return was the Gamecocks’ first turnover against East Carolina and brought them within a touchdown of the Pirates.

Another South Carolina turnover sets up second Pirates touchdown

South Carolina accumulated two turnovers by the second quarter, including a second costly fumble that resulted in East Carolina’s second touchdown. Dakereon Joyner fumbled a catch at the Gamecocks’ 26-yard line that set up a short touchdown drive for the Pirates. Though video replay showed Joyner was down before he dropped the ball, officials upheld the fumble call.

Gamecocks fumble first TD opportunity

South Carolina wide receiver Josh Vann caught what could have been a 26-yard touchdown pass from Zeb Noland, but Vann fumbled the ball as he crossed the goal line. The ball rolled out of the end zone, and the fumble was ruled a touchback.

East Carolina strikes first

The Pirates scored a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage. ECU wide receiver Tyler Snead tossed a 75-yard touchdown pass to Jsi Hatfield on a fake jet sweep, bringing East Carolina up 7-0 just 11 seconds into the game.
