Is this week’s UNC-NC State football showdown the biggest ever between the schools?
N.C. State’s chances to play for an ACC title comes down to the final week.
After defeating Syracuse at home, 41-17, the Wolfpack sit at 8-3 overall and 5-2 in league play. N.C. State needs some help if they want to make it to Charlotte. The help can come in the form of the Boston College Eagles. The opposition comes from the Pack’s most hated rival: UNC.
With so much to play for, it’s almost fitting the team standing in the way, the team that can ruin a lot, is UNC. Playing spoiler will definitely have the Tar Heels (6-5, 3-4) motivated.
The Tar Heels can ruin not only N.C. State’s division title hopes, but their perfect record at home and their shot at a 10-win season. A win over UNC will put the Pack at 9-3 with a chance to get No. 10 in the bowl game even if they didn’t go to the ACC title game.
“We have a chance to put ourselves in position if they (Wake Forest) lose, we’re in,” N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren said. “So, a lot to play for coming up and I’m looking forward to that opportunity.”
It’ll also be Senior Day at Carter-Finley Stadium. The Tar Heels have won two in a row in the series, meaning Doeren has yet to defeat Mack Brown in his return to Chapel Hill. So, yeah, safe to say this is a big one against UNC.
But, is it the biggest?
