NC State RB declares for NFL draft, says he will ‘always be a part of the Wolfpack’
On the same day an important member of the N.C. State defense announced his return, one of the leaders on offense told Wolfpack Nation he was leaving.
Running back Ricky Person, Jr. posted on social media that Friday will be his final game at Carter-Finley Stadium, as he will enter the NFL Draft.
“I know that it’s time for me to take the next step in my journey and focus my efforts on fulfilling my lifelong dream of playing in the NFL,” Person posted on Twitter and Instagram. “I’m proud that I’ll always be a part of the Wolfpack.”
After becoming an All-American at nearby Heritage, Person was one of the top recruits in Dave Doeren’s 2018 class. Person played in nine games as a true freshman, rushing for 471 yards and two touchdowns. He finished with just 229 yards on the ground and added three scores during his sophomore season, as he battled injuries and was in and out of the lineup.
Last season, a fully-healthy Person put together his best season. Starting all 12 games, he rushed for 643 yards and four touchdowns. Person is second on the team in rushing this season behind Zonovan Knight with 573 yards and a team-high five touchdowns.
Person has been a reliable pass-catching threat this season as well, with 27 catches for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
