Auburn dismissed Mike Bobo as the team’s offensive coordinator after one season, according to multiple reports Monday evening.

Bobo worked one season under coach Bryan Harsin, who was hired at Auburn last December. On3sports, ESPN and The Athletic were among those who reported the news Monday. AL.com reported that Auburn will owe Bobo $2.6 million as part of his contract buyout.

Bobo served as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator under former head coach Will Muschamp for one season in 2020. He was named the Gamecocks’ interim head coach after Muschamp was fired on Nov. 15, 2020.

South Carolina defeated Auburn 21-17 on Nov. 20 at Williams-Brice Stadium to reach the six-win mark and earn bowl eligibility. Bobo drew some criticism in the game for playcalling, include a pass that fell incomplete on a fourth-and-1 attempt.

Auburn (6-6) was 64th nationally in total offense this regular season and finished the year on a four-game losing streak.

Beamer originally opted to retain Bobo as USC’s offensive coordinator, saying the Oklahoma offense and Bobo’s scheme were not too far apart philosophically.

Bobo went to Auburn less than two weeks after being announced as part of Beamer’s USC staff and in the days after his contract with South Carolina was extended. Beamer never publicly detailed the reasons Bobo gave for leaving but did acknowledge making mistakes in filling his first coaching staff at USC.

Bobo’s son Drew, an offensive line prospect, committed to Auburn in October.

Bobo was a longtime offensive coordinator at Georgia before becoming the head coach at Colorado State and then joining South Carolina. The USC offense made strides in the run game last year but never got the production from play-makers to get the pass game going.

USC was 10th in the SEC and 98th nationally in total offense in 2020.
