Want to go see a Davidson basketball game? You’ll need to prove your vaccine status
Davidson College announced Wednesday that it will require spectators attending men’s and women’s basketball games to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to get through the door at Belk Arena.
The rule applies to anyone old enough to be eligible to receive a vaccine dose. Persons ages 5-11 must have received at least one dose while those 12 and older need to be fully vaccinated in order to watch the Wildcats play in person.
Spectators will be required to show their vaccine card — physical or digital copy, including a photo on smartphone — along with their photo ID prior to entry. There is a mask mandate for inside the building.
The Davidson men’s basketball team is 10-2 this season, including a win over 10th-ranked Alabama. The Wildcats’ start of Atlantic 10 play was postponed due to COVID and they’re scheduled to return to the court Wednesday night at St. Joseph’s. The team will return home Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against Rhode Island at Belk Arena.
The decision at Davidson follows a move by Charlotte last week that will limit attendance at home sporting events. At 49ers games, no tickets are being sold to the public until at least Jan. 24; only family of the participants will be allowed to attend. Johnson C. Smith University set a similar policy Tuesday.
