An in-game interview North Carolina coach Hubert Davis did during the NCAA tournament national championship game inspired new branding for the Tar Heels’ basketball introductory event later this month.

“It’s live action,” is what an adrenaline-fueled Davis told CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson last April, as Carolina faced Kansas in New Orleans.

Now, “Live Action with Carolina Basketball” officially replaces “Late Night” — a carryover from retired coach Roy Williams — as the name of the event that will take place on Sept. 30 at the Dean E. Smith Center. The event will include player and staff introductions for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, a combined three-point shooting contest and intra-squad scrimmages.

Admission is free and doors open at 6 p.m. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Tar Heels return four starters from their national title game appearance and could potentially be the No. 1-ranked team when the Associated Press Top 25 poll is released.

Live Action will also feature the women’s basketball team, which also returns four starters from a squad that reached the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16.
